First, they fail to listen to the customer. Some people strictly want information and will make all of their own financing decisions. Others just want some guidance. We have found that most salespeople (and that's what we are), have a "canned response" no matter what the customer says. There is little focus on the mathematics of the program as it pertains to the client. Amazingly, most loan officers have weak math skills and avoid the issue with one size fits all responses.
We focus on the needs of the customer, not our own. In the loan business, a happy client is determined by how they feel at the end of the mortgage process. Personally, the best use of our time isn't spent by hunting for new customers. We've got better things to do. When the borrower feels that they have been well taken care of, the company gets referrals. We keep it simple and straightforward. After 8 years in the financial lending industry, our past clients are our sales force and we want to keep it that way."
